必

   bì    必    bi。（1）必然，必然如此。《经上》说：“必，不已也。”必然就是事物状态不停止地一直如此下去。《经说上》说：“圣者用而勿必，必也者可勿疑。”圣人做事不轻易下必然判断，因为必然的东西是不可怀疑的。（2）一定要，必须。《大取》说：“三物必具然后（辞）足以生。”三物必须具备然后命题才得以产生。《经说上》说：“且应必应问之时。”应答必须要适合于问的语境。

   bì    必    bi (1) ‘Inevitability, necessarily so’, cf. Jīngshàng: ‘Inevitability means the state of things does not cease’ (必，不已也). cf. Jīngshuōshàng: ‘Sages act without asserting inevitability, for what is inevitable cannot be doubted’ (圣者用而勿必，必也者可勿疑). (2) ‘Must, have to’, cf. Dàqǔ: ‘The three elements must be present before a proposition can arise’ (三物必具然后辞足以生). cf. Jīngshuōshàng: ‘Responses must fit the context of the question’ (且应必应问之时).
